I Used To Think I Wasn’t Good At Meditating

I used to think Meditation was something I wasn’t good at and not really worth the time to try to get better at. Every time I did attempt it (like at a yoga class) I would feel like a failure and it would literally feel like mental torture as I could just not get my mind to stop. I thought some people were just better at it and it was meant to help some and not others, me included. Ironically enough, I would recommend it to my Birth Doula clients! And I would be in awe when I would see them experience the benefits. I felt a bit like a fraud, but again, I really thought I just wasn’t one meant to be good at it.

Then almost 2 years ago things started to change in my life and I reached a breaking point emotionally, physically and mentally. I decided enough was enough and I was going to heal every layer of myself. And part of this healing included (surprise!) Meditation!!! I started off slow. I took a 6 week class. I began to learn that I had been oh so wrong! Meditation isn’t something you have to be good at. You just have to DO it. Each time you do, you get more practice in. The more you meditate, the more you begin to look forward to it and crave it. Why? Because your brain is literally changing (for the better!). And while it may have fought the practice at first, it now realizes how good it is and feels and wants you to take those moments to practice intentional breathing and focus. Of course there will be times meditation feels the opposite of calm, peaceful and good, but even on those days, you will still benefit from taking even 5 minutes to focus your attention on the present moment, to breathe and get grounded. It’s akin to pressing the reset button. It’s the ultimate off switch for the chronic stress response that is happening so often in our bodies.

Now, I am a certified prenatal instructor, meditation guide and Reiki practitioner and most importantly have been meditating daily going on 2 years. And I can now say with confidence that the benefits are totally worth it! 🙌

So, take some time to watch (and maybe rewatch hehe) this video and then to carve 5-10 minutes a day (to start because I know once you do you’ll want to do more! 😉) to begin your meditation practice.

If you have any questions or need more guidance, just let me know, I work with clients to help them set up sustainable meditation practices for them and to make it easy and smooth to get started ❤️

Also, if you’re currently pregnant, or plan to be soon, check out the GentleBirth prenatal program and workshop, it is meditation based and is an AMAZING, innovative way to truly be prepared for the big day 🙌😊 My next class is coming up in March! Check it out here: GentleBirth with Kat
